Keyaki @ Pan Pacific Singapore

Its zen garden modelled after a Kyoto restaurant, reminded me of the one we were at in Arashiyama - Yudofu Sagano (read more here). Unfortunately, to our disappointment, we weren't having Sunday brunch in that little house, but in the restaurant next to it. Nonetheless, for $75+++, this 8 course brunch is quite worth it. Not quite exquisite, but quality Japanese food.

KOBACHI (Small Bowls)
An assortment of 3 appetizers - Eggplants, Avocado and Wasabi Mayo, and Egg Tofu.

SASHIMI
Yellowtail, Sweet Shrimp and Salmon

YAKIMONO (Pan Fried or Grilled)

Teriyaki Cod
Wrapped in a dried Bamboo Leaf (Ba Zhang Leaf), this dish didn't look too appetizing. But the simple Black Cod was cooked perfectly, allowing each tier to fall off in your mouth. The marinade wasn't too heavy too, enough to allow the fragrance of the bamboo leaf to be picked up.

YAKIMONO (Pan Fried or Grilled)

Grilled Prawns in two-styles.
We felt that the prawns were hard and overcooked. The mentaiko was a good attempt but only worked adversely to bring out a fishy taste.

AGEMONO (Deep Fried)
Assorted Tempura

NIMONO (Simmered)

Simmered Beef and Vegetables with Sukiyaki Sauce in ‘Yanagawa’ Style.
This was really appetizing! Par booked slices of beef simmered over egg and sauce, oh how I wish this was over a bowl of rice - like an Oyakodon! I'd definitely wolf the whole bowl down.

TEPPANYAKI
Beef - Medium Rare

TEPPANYAKI

Prawn and Scallop
Certainly better than the grilled prawns with a bit of a wok hei as well. The mushrooms and bean sprouts great with rice.

SHOKUJI (loosely translated - a meal)
California Maki

SHOKUJI (loosely translated - a meal)

Japanese Curry Rice with Beef
Indeed it was almost a meal on its own. Not sure why this was served towards the end of the courses though. I would have loved some rice with my simmered beef earlier. But the few chunks of beef were fatty and soft.

DESSERTS
Green Tea Ice Cream
