Da Shi Jia Prawn Noodles and Bee Hoon @ Killiney

Perhaps it is intimidating for average Singaporeans to walk into a restaurant to order just Prawn Noodles as opposed to having it in a Hawker centre. But I'm baffled why this store isn't brimming with Prawn Mee enthusiasts. I would then compare this to East Treasure's concept and standards, which unfortunately the latter prevails. However, I was recommended by the boss on my Instagram to try the Bee Hoon instead and my mind was changed!

The vermicelli thoroughly soaked up the strong umami flavours of the prawn broth, and unlike noodles did not bloat keeping its texture and bite. Umami accentuated by the chunks of crispy pork lard. The prawns are huge and really fresh.

Verdict: A good supper spot to ease off the effects of a heavy night.

The normal Prawn Noodles is not bad, but the Yellow Noodles can be overcooked. The sauce could do with more Sambal, and here the dried shallots are fried separately (as opposed to Loyang's). The soup is very gao (rich) hence its only a tiny portion that they serve you with. Its sad though, and leaves you wanting... The Prawns are big, but unlike East Treasure who chose to keep them whole, you don't get as much bite and chewiness.
