Ah Kow Minced Pork Noodles @ Hong Lim

This stall at Hong Lim seems to be never open during weekdays. Initially a shared location between 2 brothers, a falling out saw the 4th son opening near Bukit Gombak (this is one is awesome).

So when I saw this young man with an elderly woman at this outlet, I decided to give it a try. I’ve heard poor reviews, but we should give new Hawkers a chance. He must be the 3rd generation of the other son who is taking up the gauntlet.

The black vinegar seemed to be the right one, with proper fragrance. However, he has not found the balance, neglecting the complementary effect from the braised black mushrooms. The Mee Pok was tossed with the right timing, leaving an al dente bite. What is lacking is the handmade noodles from Tai Hwa.

The minced pork was very tender and springy, certainly not your machine minced pork. The highlight for me were the Teochew Dumplings - maybe cause they were prepared by the elderly lady. It was spot on, old school flavours and texture with the salted fish and fried flat fish.

Between the 2 next gen Bak Chor Mee stalls in Hong Lim (Tai Hwa vs Ah Kow), I’d patron Ah Kow instead. Let’s give them some time to hone their craft. Cheers.
