Bismillah Briyani Restaurant

I was brought to this place by my colleagues for lunch after being told so much about it. Bismillah had been recognised by Michelin's Bib Gourmand awards for 2 consecutive years in 2016 and 2017.

It is a small shop with approx 20 seats, and you would have to wait till there is space. We got there late but the queue had formed only after we got out seats.

We ordered the most famous dish, the "Kid Goat Briyani" $15, otherwise Mutton Briyani. Perhaps a fancier way of naming it.  When it arrived, I was wondering where's the meat and where is the curry? The meat is abundant under the rice, firm and tender but not quite fall off the bone. Apparently it used to be the case but since they got famous, the standard seem to have dropped. And as for the rice, and the lack of gravvy, the compensated with spices lots and lots of spices! It annoyed me quite a bit though... the cardamom pods, the star anises and peppercorns littered the entire plate. It was definitely too overpowering for my taste buds! Only thing I enjoyed about this plate was the mutton.
