Xiao Di Hokkien Mee

From the carpark, it can be quite difficult to find this place. But this coffeeshop is actually just facing the main road of Serangoon Ave 1. Guan Hock Tiong Eating House is at the corner of Serangoon Ave 1 and Ang Mo Kio Ave 1.

I was given a number and waited. So happy to see the next generation taking up the challenge to continue our hawker traditions. A young lad busying around in his neat kitchen, peering out occasionally to see the reactions of his customers to his food.

Not sure if he fries his shells for the broth, but the murkiness of his broth seems to signal both. A strong savoury flavour of the Prawn Guts. Tasty. Great control of his Garlic, strong but not overpowering the Prawn flavours. His Wok Hei is good, with fragrances of Spring Onions and Egg well played.

The Pork Lard is amazing! Freshly deep fried, Crispy and Light. Giving so much depth to the mouth of the dish, adding a slight bitter dimensions to this savoury explosion.
