Soon Kee Hokkien Mee - Bukit Batok St.11

Since I was frequently in the area, I decided to conduct a food hunt in the Bukit Batok area. This stall is not easy to find! Block 155 seems to be two coffeeshops joined back to back - so don't go to the wrong one. Soon Kee is located in what is called Broadway, in a less popular coffeeshop. The other one also has Hokkien Mee but did not look that appealing.

Soon Kee is run by Joshua, a young man who seems passionate about what he does. I am really happy to see younger hawker and I am very inspired by this. That being said, you can really taste the hard work put into this rich and flavourful plate of Hokkien Prawn Noodles. Amidst a recent incident of losing his rental deposit to the previous landlord, and to fork out more deposit to the current landlord, I admire his Fighting Spirit.

It is all in the broth, you has tastes of Sweet from Sugar and the Prawns, tinge of Bitter from the Wok Hei and the Pork Lard, Savoury from the Prawn Shells. And his Prawns are Fresh and not those cheaper farmed glassy ones you get in some laksa. The Pork Lard is fried perfectly without becoming too charred or bitter - light and crispy. The Chilli is a Belachan style, likened to the one in Chomp Chomp (not Ah Hock).
