Lunch Menu @ Long Chim MBS

Hidden upstairs of the Casino floor beside the greats of Waku Ghin, Long Chim is only accessible by a separate lift. You would think this is a fine dining restaurant, but the setting is very casual like that of a tuckshop in retro Singapore.

I had the impression too that this is going to be an expensive lunch. But was surprised to find 2/3 courses set lunches for only $25++ and $30++! You get to choose from a range of Thai starters, followed by mains from Fried Rice, Noodle Soups, Phad Thai.

Starters

Here you see the Fish Cakes, it's quite spicy and tastes very much like "Otah" - a local spiced Mackeral paste. Extremely rich and fragrant, best eaten with the fried Basil leaves too.

And what came recommended were the Crispy Shrimps. So much flavour bursts out with each chew! The curry powder spiced batter with salt as it enters your mouth. The after taste however, jumps at you with strong flavours of lemongrass and ginger and the other thai spices! Must try.

On the left, the Cured Pork Fritters. Deep fried chunks of minced Pork infused with thai spices. You'd except a savoury piece of meat, but a shock to your taste buds with a burst of light sourness to compete with a heat from chillis. Great experience from a tiny bite of pork.

On the right, Miang Prawns. Your first impression would have to be "rojak". Tastes of a fermenty prawn flavour with sweetness and textures of roasted nuts. "Eat them with the Betel Leaf" they said. Indeed it did lend to the texture of its "chew" character.

Mains

They had also recommended the Duck Fried Rice. It was expertly fried, with "wok hei" and each grain dry and fragrant. Duck didn't feel like it goes well with fried rice though. And it was a tad salty, and very very peppery with raw peppercorns littered all over. You'd be better off with the Phad Thai.

Minced Beef with Stir fried Chilli Padi with Basil and Garlic on Rice. An amazing twist to the popular Thai staple of Basil Chicken/Pork Rice. The flavours are released into the minced beef from frying the Chillis, Garlic and Basil Leaves in Oil. Do not separate the leaves and chillis, each bite of it lends to the overall taste.
