CBD Lunch Series - Bugis
A pictorial series to help you along to what to eat whenever you are in the Bugis area. The CBD series is about bringing together a guide to sourcing for lunch venues within the vicinity.
Bugis Junction:
Eighteen Chefs is located on the top floor of Bugis Junction right next to the Cinema. Opened by Social Entrepreneur Benny Se Teo to help Ex-Convicts. The place is very well run, with a self service ordering counter, affordable prices, discounts for Students and Pioneer elderly, and friendly staff.
I had the signature Salted Egg Prawn Pasta, and it was surprisingly good. I had a very good impression of this place. Its intentional efficiency to make it easy for staff to manage their assimilation.
Menya Musashi opened another outlet in yet another bustling mall. Located on the basement beside the lifts, it sees a steady crowd getting their Ramen fix. With an online ordering system via iPads, the service is fairly prompt.
MOF (Ministry of Food) is located on the 2nd floor, just behind Watsons. It has a variety of food ranging from Ramen, Dons, and Sushi Platters etc. Service can be fairly poor with staff walking right past you, and food can take awhile to reach but I suspect it is not the kitchen but the staff that causes this delay.
Food Junction:
Puay Heng Minced Pork Noodles, opened a stall in Food Junction since its move from China Square. The famous Capitol Building noodles have now franchised, and surprisingly have not lost too much of its quality. Come here if you want a quick fix for good textured noodles, fresh ingredients, and the traditional dash of vinegar.
Yu Kee Duck Rice [CLOSED] is just across the road from Bugis Junction, the corner coffeeshop by in front of the traffic lights. Their braised duck is tender and soaks in the salty braised sauce, whilst its yam rice is fragrant and grainy to give you a very satisfying lunch!
Ah Seng Bak Kut Teh is located at the coffeeshop across the lane from Yu Kee Duck Rice and across the road from Bugis Junction. This place is open 24 hours along with a Bak Chor Mee stall, perhaps to cater to the owls in the Bugis area. Was pleasantly surprised with the taste of their soup, peppery as with the rest, but sweeter than the rest too. The meat was fairly tender but drier than Song Fa's.
Four Seasons - Keisuke, is round the corner of Bugis Village diagonally across Raffles hospital. Another outlet of the successful Keisuke opens in Bugis to cater to the throngs of students who are now discerning of their Ramen. Unlike the other three predecessors, Four Seasons is to cater to more varying tastebuds.
