Lunch at The Pecking Order [CLOSED]

The Merry Men Group recently released the lunch menu for The Pecking Order. I had promised to make a trip down to try it. When we arrived at noon, the crowd had barely formed, and we had the most attentive service you could ask for. The staff were constantly waiting upon us, checking in if we were fine.

Looking at the menu, two things caught my eye... One was the very cheeky nomenclature for their set lunch, and the other was how reasonably priced they were.

So off we went with the Prawn Bisque. This blew me away... I loved my lobster bisques... but I also love a good Rich Prawn Mee Soup. It is like they took my favourite River South Prawn Mee and reduced it to a bisque and served it to me. This is easily the highlight of the entire meal!

And for the mains, the Lamb Ribs were highly recommended and being Singaporean, I went for it. It was indeed a good choice. The lamb had no unwanted ordours, and the meat was so succulent and tasty. It had a slight char to give the outside texture, but the meat was soft and supple and the tissues and tendons added to the springiness of each bite.

The accompanying sauce was rich and well reduced, not too sweet or salty. And the plate came with Curry Parsnip and Turnip Slaw which added a different dimension, but I opted to skip that.

We had ordered the Kurobuta Pork Belly as our second main - who could resist Kurobuta?! Perhaps the Quinoas should have been a giveaway that this dish was to be light, yet we were overwhelmed by the Pork Belly - or the Chef was trying to strike a balance between two extremes... The lightness of the salads and Quinoas did not seem to blend harmoniously with the Pork Belly. The meat was fatty (slightly soft), contrasted the crisp texture on the outside. Perhaps a stronger sauce might help to find that binding factor.

And came out the dessert, Mango Pudding with Kiwi Ricotta. It was light, fresh and tangy. This brought a wonderful close to a good lunch!
